Today I recap: Person of Interest, season 2

This is a really fun season. Some of my all-time favorite episodes are in here, and it was hard to pick my most favorite ones for this recap. My least favorites were relatively easy to pick, but only thanks to me reviewing them. A lot became clearer then.

But first, let’s talk about the characters and their development now that we’ve known them a little longer.

Today I (re)watch: Person of Interest, 2.22

The season 2 finale! Easily on my top 5 of POI season finales (geddit? ’cause POI has only 5 seasons, and all its finales are fucking phenomenal!).
‘Zero Day’ and ‘God Mode’ act as two parts of the same episode, and we left the first part off with the following:
The Machine makes a call to both John and Root, who are now both on god mode with her. A phone threesome, if you will. Carter is framed as a bad cop who shoots people for no reason, Harold reluctantly teams up with Root to save the Machine, and Shaw and John are left to following them around like very attractive and skilled puppies.

I have watched the whole show before, so SPOILERS MIGHT HAPPEN. Big spoilers will be blanked out but references and irrelevant spoilers are going to be out in the open.

HOLY SHIT, we’ve arrived at the 2-part season finale. It’s such a journey, that I don’t know how I’m going to pack it all in. Let’s go.

The Machine appears to have shut down or something by the virus Kara uploaded, so it creates a fake person instead. So Harold and  John are trying to find this non-existent person, and Root is back, because she is interested in getting to Harold and The Machine, and Sameen Shaw is back, because she is interested (don’t say it, don’t say it) in Root.

The opening credits get interrupted with random symbols and more BSoDs! The Machine is clearly a Lil’ Stressed. Poor little AI, that flu of hers is getting outta hand.

Today I (re)watch: Person of Interest, 2.20

Woah, we are so close to the double-feature season 2 finale. Can y’all believe?! And it’s gonna hurt soooo good.

‘In Extremis’ has some very good, some very weird, and some very stressful. A lot of ups and downs, we’ll see how the review goes.
On the one hand, we get a very Fusco-centric episode which I had been waiting for since the dawn of time. That was amazing, and stressful but in a good way, and gave way for great character development for Carter too, and for their friendship.
On the other hand, the number of the week is not likeable enough to carry his own plot successfully, in my opinion.
And on yet another, third alien hand, Reese and especially Finch act kind of out of character. Or really out of character, depending on who you ask.

CW brief emotional abuse

‘Trojan Horse’ is a super enjoyable case of the week episode with hidden depths. The number, Monica Jacobs, is quite interesting, but what’s more interesting is everything that happens with major players like Elias, HR, Ominous British Man, and Sameen Shaw. A cutie leaves us for good, and another cutie hints at staying for longer.

The case-of-the-week is not amazing (not bad, but not amazing), but Leon is back! And the HR plot moves along, in very sad and stressful directions.

‘All In’ opens with the absolute treasure of a human being that is Leon Tao. He has scammed some scammers who hire a woman to seduce him, and want to cut out his intestines and make him wear them as a hat (their words, not mine.) Upon realizing these men intend to kill him, Leon points out they’d better run. John and Bear (I love it when Bear helps!! I know I keep repeating myself but I love it so much!!) storm in and un-cuff Leon. I wonder, does Leon ever try to figure out why John and Harold know and intervene everytime he’s about to get killed? Or is he like Fusco, who just rolls with it? Either way, god bless Leon Tao.

Harold and John get six apparently unrelated numbers that are all over the (US) map. The search leads them to an island where they are stranded because of a particularly harsh storm, and they realize there is a creepy ass serial killer trapped with them. This episode is an Agatha Christie novel inside of a show, and an absolute delight for all fans of Michael Emerson in particular.
